AffordableSchools.net, an online resource focusing on affordable higher education institutes and academic programs, recently announced their ranking of the 25 Most Affordable Online Masters of Accounting Degrees. American Public University System (Charles Town, W. Va.) was placed first, with the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (Lowell, Mass.) and Western Governors University (Salt Lake City, Utah) taking second and third, respectively.

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) announced on Monday the election of Angela Witzany as chairman of the organization’s 2016-2017 Global Board of Directors. The election of Witzany, as well as the rest of the Global Board, was held at the IIA’s annual business meeting following the organization’s 75th International Conference in New York City.

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) announced today the 72 recipients of the 2016-2017 Academic Year PCAOB Scholarship, a $10,000 merit scholarships used to encourage undergrad and graduate students to pursue careers in audit.

According to a new survey from Accountemps, 30 percent of surveyed CFOs cited a motivation to learn new skills as the most necessary trait for professionals to succeed in today's business landscape. Interpersonal skills (27 percent) and the ability to "adapt easily to change" (24 percent) followed closely behind.

Becker Professional Education announced on Wednesday that 68 of the 75 Elijah Watt Sells Award recipients for 2015 were students of Becker’s CPA Exam Review course. Becker further claims that more than 90 percent of Elijah Watt winners since 2005 have prepared for the exam using their review course.

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) donated $10,000 to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum during its annual International Conference in Manhattan. Josh Cherwin, director of Institutional Advancement for the Memorial and Museum, accepted the donation from IA International Conference co-chairs Nick DiMola and Paul Flora.

York University in Toronto announced on Tuesday that their School of Continuing Studies will start offering post-graduate accounting certificates this September, approved by the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario. The courses look to further prepare students to thrive in the accounting profession, as well as gaining an advantage in applying to the Schulich School of Business' Masters of Accounting program.

The RI Society of CPAS (RISCPA) announced on Monday that they will host their 25th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, July 25th at the Warwick Country Club. Over 140 golfers will be playing for the Community Preparatory School - an independent school in South Providence where over 96% of students receive substantial financial aid.

Today at NAF Next 2016 - NAF’s annual professional development conference - the AICPA and NAF announced the launch of a new high school prep program aimed at increasing and diversifying the pipeline of students entering the accounting profession. Deloitte announced on Monday that a team of undergrad and graduate accounting students representing Louisiana State University (LSU) placed first in the Deloitte Foundation's 21st annual National Student Case Study Seminar. The Deloitte Foundation awarded each of the five winning LSU team members a $2,000 scholarship and a $10,000 award towards LSU's accounting program.

The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) announced on Thursday that the University will host its 2016 Summer Institute in Taxation July 18-29, at The Westin New York in Times Square. Terry Ramm, 63, of Lincoln, UK, recently joined 2000 other students - many of them younger - at accounting-centered online college Ideal Schools in order to begin a second career in the profession, according to a statement from the school.

John Sharbaugh, executive director and CEO of the Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) and one of Accounting Today’s 100 Most Influential People, was recently announced as a 2015-2016 honorary member of the Society. The National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) announced on Thursday that Steven Harris, partner-in-charge of RubinBrown’s Entrepreneurial Services Group, was named the new chairman of their Board of Directors. Effective July 1, 2016, Harris will serve a two-year term.

Dallas, Texas tax services firm Ryan announced on Wednesday that they will hold an inaugural, firm-wide day of service in honor of the firm's 25th anniversary on July 14, 2016. Dubbed the “RyanSHARES” day, the firm's professionals will spend a full day volunteering in their respective local communities.
