Property Taxes High Enough for Diana Ross

Diana Ross is asking the town of Greenwich, Conn., “Where did our love go?” after the town overvalued the singer’s property, and her lawyer is appealing the assessment.

Ross’s attorney, Melissa Klauberg, but not the R&B diva herself, made an appearance at Greenwich’s Board of Assessment Appeals meeting on Thursday to argue against the valuation of the $7.3 million mansion, according to the Greenwich Time. Klauberg noted that the property, known as the Quarry Farm, hadn’t been renovated in many years. The kitchen in the 12,562-square-foot mansion was renovated over 30 years ago by the previous owner, the late Frank Gorshin, who played the Riddler on the Batman television series in the 1960s and was famous for his James Cagney impression.

Ross tried to sell the five-acre estate for $39.5 million in 2007, but ended up renting it out instead. The town has valued the property at $14.4 million.

Klauberg also wants the value lowered on Ross’s nearby $15.5 million parcel of land as it does not have a clear view of Long Island Sound and there is noise from a nearby interstate highway.

Ross pays approximately $168,000 a year in property taxes for the two parcels. When she appealed the town’s assessment in 2004, she was able to lower her tax bill by $30,000.
