Intuit Intros Online Version of ProLine Tax Software

Intuit is releasing a Software as a Service version of its ProLine Tax software, making it available over the Internet like the company’s consumer-oriented TurboTax.

ProLine Tax Online Edition is available in 22 states this tax season. The Web-based software has been designed to operate over the Internet using a cloud computing model. Intuit said the software uses the latest encryption standards and the information is safeguarded by firewall-protected Web servers and password-protected Web sites.

The software features a single-screen data entry process, as opposed to the interview format in TurboTax, with workflow features designed to fit in with a professional tax practice. The tax year 2009 edition is designed for professionals who focus on 1040 returns and complete about 50 returns per year. Intuit plans future releases with modules for business, partnership and S Corporation returns, and those of other types of entities.

The software supports 22 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Intuit ProLine Tax Online Edition sells for $19.95 per client for all filings associated with a client’s return, including federal and single- or multi-state returns. However, for the first 2,000 customers who register for the service by Jan. 31, 2010, Intuit is offering a special promotional price of $9.95 per client throughout tax year 2009 (Oct. 31, 2010).
