IRS Files Lien Against Rapper Nas for $2.5 Million

Rap singer Nas is the latest hip-hop performer facing tax trouble, with the IRS filing a lien against him for $2,584,206.31.

The tax lien is for income that the singer earned in 2006 and 2007, according to TMZ.com. The 36-year-old performer, who was born Nasir Jones, signed a four-album deal with Def Jam Records in 2006.

His ex-wife, R&B singer Kelis, sued him for unpaid child support earlier this year, claiming the Def Jam deal had earned him $11 million, although Jones contends that the figure is closer to $4 million, according to Examiner.com.

Nas claimed in July in his response to the divorce suit that he currently earns about $147,165 per month, but spends $71,371.96 a month, including approximately $10,000 on expenses such as clothing, hair, toiletries and personal effects.
