Another Former BDO Exec Pleads Guilty in Tax Case

A fourth former partner at BDO Seidman has pleaded guilty in a tax shelter case.

Robert Greisman, 58, of Deerfield, Ill., pled guilty to three counts of conspiracy in a federal court in Manhattan.

Greisman was indicted along with former BDO Seidman CEO Denis Field, and five lawyers and bankers from outside the firm, last month (see Former BDO CEO Indicted for Tax Shelters). Prosecutors accused them of marketing tax shelters with names like “Homer” to wealthy clients to help them eliminate or reduce large tax liabilities. Three other former BDO officials, including former vice chairman Charles Bee Jr., have already pleaded guilty to various charges in the case. Greisman managed the tax solutions group that designed the various strategies.

“Mr. Greisman is a former BDO Seidman partner,” said a statement by the firm. “He was a member of a group of partners within the firm that marketed tax shelter products. That group was dissolved by BDO several years ago. BDO Seidman has cooperated fully with the government’s tax shelter investigation and will continue to do so. The firm does not intend to comment further on this matter.”

Greisman is set to be sentenced on Oct. 23. He faces up to five years in prison but is reportedly cooperating with prosecutors.
