Judge Lets Snipes Travel Abroad for Filming

A judge has granted permission for actor Wesley Snipes to travel to London and Bangkok so he can work on two upcoming films.

Judge William Terrell Hodges gave Snipes the go-ahead to visit England for three days this month to do post-production work on the horror flick “Gallowwalker” and then head to Thailand in September to begin shooting the action movie “Chasing the Dragon.”

Prosecutors objected to the open-ended return date for the Thailand project, which Snipes estimated would last eight weeks.

Snipes’ attorney argued that his client did not pose a flight risk and that if he did not fulfill his contractual obligations, it would damage his career and his ability to provide for his family (see Snipes Asks to Leave U.S. for Filming). He also needs the money to pay his tax obligations.

The actor was convicted earlier this year on three misdemeanor charges of failing to file his tax returns three years in a row. He is currently appealing his conviction and his sentence of three years in prison.
