My Accountant is an Ironman?

By Liz Gold
October 6, 2009

Well, yes. But in this case she’s an Ironman competing in this year’s Ford Ironman Championship.

She would be Haley Chura, a senior auditor with Bennett Thrasher in Atlanta.
Tens of thousands triathletes vie for a chance to compete in this Super Bowl of all triathlons event held in Kona, Hawaii and only 1,800 are given the opportunity.

Chura is among them.

And the competition is grueling – 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking and a 26.2 mile run through ocean waves and lava-covered terrain. Chura, however, has had her share of competition. She was a member of the University of Georgia swim team, participated in several marathons and even swam the 200-meter backstroke at last year’s U.S. Olympic team trials.

Chura accomplished these feats while maintaining her job as senior auditor. We are told that Managing Partner Rick Bennett convinced her to try out for the Olympic team, while Michael Dukes head of Bennett Thrasher’s audit practice, encouraged her to train for her first marathon. Now she’s got the entire BT community behind her as she stakes her claim into the Ironman Championship.

For more information about the Ironman check out their Web site at www.ironman.com.

It just goes to show that not all accountants fit that nerdy stereotype as we see on TV. However, with the competition biting at the heels, it is important that she, as an auditor, endures she doesn't overlook anything during the 9-5. The auditing companies are fully responsible for any flaws in the process up to the full amount of the liability. www.blogs.vbpoutsourcing.com
