JMT BUYS LAVINE BMC TECHNOLOGIES

JMT Consulting Group, a reseller of non profit software, has acquired a Lavine BMC Technologies, a Brownsville, Texas-based organization that operates in the same market.

Jacqueline Tiso, president of Patterson, N.Y.-based JMT said Lavine will join her company as regional vice president and will help develop new lines of business.

A member of the Sage Chairman's Club for 2008, JMT last year acquired NFP Technologies, another Chairman's Club member.

PROMETHEAN VARS JOIN ITA

Four resellers of Promethean, an educational software publisher based in Altanta, have joined the Information Technology Alliance, a CPA and technology consulting association.

The VARs joined following Promethean's hiring early this year of channel veteran Taylor Macdonald as its VP of channel sales. Resellers of Deltek joined ITA. The new members are Pro Computing of Carrollton, Texas, Firsttech Computer of Minneapolis, Logical

Choice Technologies of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Macprofessionals of Nori, Mich.

SPEEDTAX INKS SAGE VARS

SpeedTax, which markets sales-and-use-tax software, has signed 10 Sage resellers to market its product line.

Signing on with the Laguna Hills, Calif-based vendor was Sage's largest VAR, Blytheco. Also joining the program was SWK Technologies, Livingston, N.J.; Arxis Technology, Simi Valley, Calif.; Forepoint USA, Seattle, Wash.; IncorTech, Fontana, Calif.; Martin & Associates, Cincinnati; Terrell & Terrell, Dallas; Axis Global Partners, Miami, Fla.; KasTech Consulting, Langhorne, Pa., and e2e Business Management Solutions, Vancouver, British Columbia.

MIZE, HOUSER DROPS CPA/MIS

Mize, Houser & Co., a CPA firm based in Topeka, Kan., has decided to stop selling its CPA/MIS practice management system and to instead off the Star Global Suite from Star Americas Software Solutions.

The accounting firm began selling CPA/MIS to other CPA organizations more than 20 years ago. Mize, Houser and Star will transition the user based to Star Global and the firm will also market the Star produce to midsize firms.

TREY RESOURCES CUTS LOSS

Trey Resources, which operates SWK Technologies, a Livingston, N.J.-based Sage reseller, cut its loss to $1.589 million for the year ended Dec. 31, down from $1.61 million in red ink for 2007.

Meanwhile, its revenue rose to $7.7 million, up 4.6 percent from $7.4 million a year ago. Its operating loss fell sharply to $557.693 for the most recently ended year from just over $1 million in the prior year, But bottom line continued to be hurt by other income and expenses. This time, it lost $640,829 on the revaluation of derivatives while it saw a $925,212 gain in the same category in 2007.

SAGE ADOPTS NEW PRICING

Sage North America has announced a new tiered pricing proram that will be implemented in October for resellers who handle its softwar applications.

The program rewards larger resellers. Paul Johnson, EVP of sales of Sage Business Solutions, said that Platinum and Diamond-level dealers can earn three more margin points. The company is also offering extra margin for sales to new customers to help Sage reduce its reliance on income from it installed base. The company has also replaced its annual Presidents' Circle award for resellers and families, usually at a resort, with a two-day business retreat for firm business principals only.
